Stage is Set: Qualifying Night Complete at Port Royal, Saturday Main Events

PORT ROYAL, PA – The stage is set.

On Friday night at Port Royal Speedway, the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco hosted its Qualifying Night to set the stage for Saturday’s main events.

Today (Saturday), the STSS Modifieds compete for 60 laps and a $12,000 top prize, with the STSS Sportsman vying for $4,000 after 40 laps and the Pro Stocks battle 25 laps with $1,250 going to the winner. Consolations for Modifieds and Sportsman will precede the main events to set the starting field.

Gates open at noon, with hot laps at 2 p.m. and racing at 3 p.m.

Grandstand admission is $35. Students (ages 13-18) pay $15. Kids 12 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $45.

In STSS Modified competition, three 15-lap Dirt Track Digest TV Qualifying Races were set with Louden Reimert of Oley, Pa., Matt Sheppard of Savannah, N.Y., and Billy Pauch Jr. of Frenchtown, N.J., recording $500 victories.

Twenty-four drivers are now locked in for this afternoon’s main event.

A field of 41 STSS Modifieds signed into the Speed Palace pit area for Round No. 1 of the NJ Quality Drywall South Region. Two consolations remain on Saturday’s agenda.

Fifty-three STSS Sportsman took part in four Bob Hilbert Sportswear 12-lap Qualifying Races.

Paulie Hartwig III of Galloway, N.J., Travis Hill of Elmer, N.J., Jesse Hirthler of Boyertown, Pa., and Donovan Lussier of Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada, recorded $250 victories.

A field of 24 drivers are locked into Saturday’s event, with a pair of consolations to set the remainder of the starting field for Round No. 1 of the Belmont’s Garage South Region.

Andy Graves of Middleburgh, N.Y., and Luke Horning of Gloversville, N.Y., split the Pro Stock heat races.

After ‘Speed Showcase’ weekend at Port Royal is complete, attention turns to N.J.’s Bridgeport Motorsports Park Saturday, March 22 with the ’60 Over Special’ paying $6,060 to win for the STSS Modifieds and $4,444 for the STSS Sportsman.
