Back at Afton: Short Track Super Series Invades Afton Fairgrounds July 16

AFTON, NY – Afton Motorsports Park is back.

Literally, back.

For the first time since Oct. 8, 2022, the picturesque fairgrounds venue off Interstate 88 Exit 7 hosts the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco on Wednesday, July 16 for the ‘Interstate 88 Special’ program.

The venue’s most recent points-paying race dates back a year further to Oct. 9, 2021.

Next Wednesday both big money and series points will be on the line.

STSS Modifieds race 48 laps with $5,088 going to the winner, $1,000 for 10th and $500 to take the green flag. The event serves as Race No. 4 of the HYTORC of New York championship chase for the Modifieds.

STSS Sportsman have $1,588 waiting at the completion of 28 laps around the Afton oval, with $100 to take the green flag in Round No. 3 of the Madsen Overhead Doors Inc. North Region.

Also on the program: 600 Modifieds and Four Cylinders.

After Thursday night’s visit to Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y., Stewart Friesen holds a slim 19-point lead over Matt Sheppard in the $15,000 HYTORC of New York North Region title chase. David Hebert (-77), Jack Lehner (-89) and Alex Payne (-113) complete the top five.

In the STSS Sportsman Madsen Overhead Doors Inc. North Region standings, Tyler Peet leads David Hackett by 12 points and Dylan Madsen by 20 entering Afton. Joe Toth (-27) and Butchie Irwin (-28) complete the front five. The most recent STSS Sportsman event took place at Fonda Speedway in Fonda, N.Y., July 2.

On July 16, all gates open at 4 p.m., with Dirt Draft Hot Laps at 6 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.

Grandstand admission is $28 (Adults), $25 (Seniors ages 62-plus and Students ages 9-13), with Kids 8 and under FREE.

Pit admission is $45 (ages 14 and up), $15 (ages 5-13) and $5 (ages 0-4).

The event will be streamed live on FloRacing (www.floracing.tv).
