The Hard Clay Finale: Orange County Hosts Short Track Super Series Thursday
MIDDLETOWN, NY – It all comes down to this.
A Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco season that began in February concludes Thursday night (Oct. 23) at the legendary Orange County Fair Speedway.
The annual ‘Hard Clay Finale’ serves as the kickoff to Eastern States Weekend at the Legendary House of Power.
The event wraps up the HYTORC of New York North Region for the STSS Modifieds with a 50-lap event paying $5,000-plus to win, $1,000 for 10th and $500 to take the green.
Championship points will be awarded based on the 150-point schedule.
The venerable OCFS five-eighths-mile oval hosted the first-ever STSS Modified event on April 6, 2014. Since that inaugural race, the series has returned on 14 more occasions. Thursday’s program will be the 16th event in STSS history in Middletown.
Matt Sheppard of Savannah, N.Y., leads the STSS Modified HYTORC of New York standings into Orange County. Sheppard is fresh off a victory last Saturday night in the series’ first visit to Maryland’s Hagerstown Speedway.
OCFS Sportsman join STSS Modifieds on the program with hot laps, time trials, heats and last chance qualifiers.
At noon on Thursday, the pit gate opens along with the drive-in and camper load-in.
Grandstand gates are unlocked at 3 p.m.
STSS drivers’ meeting takes place at 5:15 p.m., with Dirt Draft Hot Laps at 6 p.m. Racing is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Grandstand and Drive-In admission: $30 (Adults) and $10 (Children ages 12 and under). There is a $5 parking fee for the Drive-In. Party Deck tables are $160 for up to four.
Pit admission is $40.
